1. Best business laptops: MacBook Pro
Apple launched three new MacBook Pro models last October: a 15-inch model and two 13-inch versions.
Both the 15-inch model and one the 13-inch ones provide a sensor 'Touch Bar' which replaces function keys on the QWERTY keyboard. The product features no USB-C port but does offer four thunderbolts 3 ports which hold the same functionality.
Apple also released a 13" model without the Touch Bar which is £300 cheaper but, as you would expect, is a less powerful machine.
The previous 13-inch MacBook Pro is available with or without retina display. And while both provide superb storage and commendable processing power, the Pro with retina display does gift sensational visuals and up to three hours more battery life. The 15-inch MacBook Pro with retina display while being two inches bigger doesn't differ too much in technical ability.
For those wanting to spend less money, the MacBook Air 13-inch provides an impressive 12-hour battery life in the larger edition. The Air does lack the storage space of the Pro but is still a great piece of kit.
2. Best business laptops: HP Spectre 13
This HP laptop is slimline, ultra-portable and surprisingly powerful. Spectre offers a premium feel designed to rival the 12-inch Macbook Pro.
The HP Spectre 13 has an Intel Core i7-6500U, which is uncommon in thin laptops, that normally opt for the Intel Core M series chipset. This means the laptop could have potential cooling problems, although this chipset is still part of Intel's low-voltage range of CPUs.
3. Best business laptops: Microsoft Surface Pro 4
The Surface Pro 4 is the latest Windows 10 tablet with detachable keyboard and it packs quite the punch. Offering up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, this hybrid laptop should please the most power hungry CIO, while also satisfying the design conscious.
The Surface Pro 4 looks spectacular, it's ultra-thin and lightweight and it still offers a full-size USB 3.0 port for the practical among us.
4. Best business laptops: Dell Latitude 13 7370
Part of the Dell Latitude 13 7000 series, this PC comes with Windows 7 Professional pre-installed, with the option of upgrading to Windows 10 Professional.
The Core M5 processor offers excellent multi-tasking capabilities, highlighting that this Dell is firmly made for the business user.
What's more, its edge-to-edge display gives this laptop a premium feel while also boasting practical features such as an SD card reader, USB 3.0 port, lock slot, two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports, as well as a micro HDMI slot and room for two optional micro SIM cards.
5. Best business laptops: Microsoft Surface Pro 3
Advertised as the 'tablet that can replace your laptop', the Surface Pro 3 is a good choice for CIOs wanting a powerful laptop/tablet, but don't want to stump up the cash for its successor, the Surface Pro 4.
The Surface Pro 3 can provide up to nine hours of web browsing from one charge, rivaling the battery power of Apple's MacBook Air.
